Mapúa University has reinforced its reputation as a forward-thinking academic institution after receiving the AI Innovation Award at Coursera Connect Manila 2025, held on October 5 at the Sheraton Manila Hotel in Pasay City.
The recognition highlights Mapúa’s pioneering efforts in embedding artificial intelligence into higher education through its flagship course, Introduction to Generative AI and Prompt Engineering. The program was cited for its strategic, scalable, and effective integration of AI into the university’s curriculum, setting a benchmark for digital learning innovation in the Philippines.
Designed as a two-month online course, the initiative was created to build Generative AI literacy across the entire Mapúa community, reaching students, faculty members, and administrative staff alike. Beyond basic familiarity, the course emphasizes practical application and ethical use of generative AI technologies, ensuring participants are equipped to navigate AI-driven environments responsibly.
At the same time, the program aligns closely with industry needs, equipping learners with in-demand AI competencies that are rapidly becoming essential in today’s evolving job market.

Developing and deploying the course at scale came with challenges, particularly given the tight timeline and the large number of intended learners. To address this, Mapúa leveraged Coursera’s Course Builder to rapidly design a customized learning experience, while the platform’s AI Coach provided real-time, personalized support to thousands of participants throughout the program.
Since its launch, the Introduction to Generative AI and Prompt Engineering course has reached 11,274 learners across the university, achieving an impressive completion rate of over 85 percent—an indicator of both strong engagement and effective course design.
