Malacañang has officially announced that March 20, Friday, will be observed as a regular holiday across the Philippines in celebration of Eid’l Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan.
Proclamation 1189 was signed on March 12 by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto and posted on the Official Gazette website.
The declaration followed the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos to recognize March 20 or March 21 as a national holiday for the Feast of Ramadan.
The proclamation emphasized that the holiday allows the Filipino public to observe the religious and cultural significance of Eid’l Fitr and join Muslim communities in peaceful celebration.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had earlier affirmed the holiday during the Grand Iftar on March 12, joining Muslim leaders and community members in honoring the tradition.
The Presidential Communications Office said the declaration highlights Eid’l Fitr as a time for prayer, reflection, and fasting, marking the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan.
Malacañang said the holiday also reflects the government’s respect for the contributions of Filipino Muslims to national life.
The announcement ensures that government offices, private companies, and schools nationwide recognize March 20 as a day of rest and observance for the holiday.
