Magnitude 5.1 aftershock hits Bogo City, Cebu

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck northeast of Bogo City, Cebu early Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The tectonic quake, recorded at 5:39 a.m., had a depth of 10 km and was confirmed as an aftershock of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that hit offshore Cebu on Sept. 30.

Phivolcs said Intensity IV shaking was felt in Bogo City, Cebu, as well as in Villaba, Tabango, and San Isidro, Leyte. Intensity III was reported in Tabuelan, Cebu, and in the towns of Calubian and Palompon, Leyte. Intensity II was also felt in Argao, Cebu.

Instrumental intensities were also logged, including Intensity IV in Villaba, Leyte; Intensity III in Cebu City, Hilongos, and Ormoc; and Intensity II in parts of Biliran, Bohol, Cebu, and Leyte.

Despite the widespread tremor reports, Phivolcs assured that no damage is expected from the quake.
