MACAU is running out of chances—and San Miguel Beer is in no mood to show mercy.
The Beermen march into Ynares Center Montalban Friday night hunting for another victim as they target a season sweep of the struggling Macau Giant Pandas in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup.
And this one could get brutal.
San Miguel enters the 7:30 p.m. showdown riding renewed confidence, armed with championship firepower and looking to tighten its grip on second place in Group A.
Macau?
The guest squad is fighting just to keep its campaign from falling apart.
The Beermen currently sit at 5-2, trailing only unbeaten NLEX at 6-0, while the Giant Pandas are stuck near the basement at 2-5 alongside Titan Ultra.
That makes Friday’s clash a battle between a giant trying to climb higher and a wounded team desperately trying not to sink.
AUSTRIA IS BACK—AND SO IS SAN MIGUEL’S BITE
The timing could not be worse for Macau.
Coach Leo Austria is back on the San Miguel bench after recovering from an angioplasty, and the Beermen wasted little time reminding everyone just how dangerous they can be.
After suffering a frustrating 89-93 overtime loss to an injury-depleted TNT squad, San Miguel came roaring back and punished Converge, 126-114, Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
It was exactly the kind of response expected from a championship team.
And exactly the kind of warning Macau did not want to see.
The victory also completed another dominant chapter against Converge, which San Miguel had already beaten, 128-122, in their first meeting last July 22.
Now the Beermen are looking to do the same thing to Macau.
Sweep them.
Move on.
Keep chasing the top.
JUNE MAR, KING READY TO POUNCE
George King continues to provide San Miguel with explosive scoring punch, while June Mar Fajardo remains the nightmare matchup nobody wants to deal with.
And the scary part?
Fajardo does not even need to dominate the scoring column anymore to wreck an opponent.
The eight-time MVP can punish teams with rebounds, screens, passing, interior defense and sheer presence inside the paint.
Put that together with King’s offensive firepower and San Miguel’s deep supporting cast, and Macau could be staring at a long night.
Especially if the Beermen get rolling early.
MACAU’S LAST STAND?
The Giant Pandas have shown flashes of life.
Before their latest setback, Macau finally snapped a four-game losing streak and strung together victories over Titan, 132-126, and Terrafirma, 96-92.
For a moment, it looked like the guest squad had found its groove.
Then disaster struck.
Macau surrendered 132 points in a crushing 128-132 loss to Titan—a defeat made even more painful because it came against another team languishing near the bottom of Group A.
That setback shoved the Giant Pandas right back into trouble.
Now they have to recover against San Miguel.
Not exactly the easiest place to find a lifeline.
Another loss would send Macau to 2-6 and leave its playoff hopes hanging by a thread.
An upset, on the other hand, could completely change the mood of its campaign.
But beating San Miguel will require something close to a perfect game.
Macau must survive the Beermen’s size, keep King from catching fire and somehow stop Fajardo from controlling the interior.
Easier said than done.

San Miguel has championship pedigree.
San Miguel has momentum.
San Miguel has Austria back.
Macau has desperation.
Friday night will reveal whether desperation is enough.
Can the Giant Pandas pull off a season-saving shocker and drag themselves back into contention?
Or will the Beermen smell blood, go for the throat and shove Macau one step closer to elimination?
In Montalban, there may be nowhere left for the Giant Pandas to hide.
