Authorities on Thursday night recovered at least 14 luxury vehicles believed to be connected to former congressman turned fugitive Zaldy Co during an operation at a condominium complex in Taguig City.
The Highway Patrol Group (HPG) said the vehicles were seized after a Manila court issued search warrants over alleged violations of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
The operation was carried out in the parking area of the condominium, where the vehicles were found and later transferred to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure in Taguig City for proper processing.
Among the impounded units were high-value models from brands such as Rolls-Royce, Ferrari, Cadillac, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, GMC, and Toyota, many of which were reportedly registered under different corporations.
Police clarified that several of the vehicles were directly covered by the court-issued warrants, while others were taken into custody based on separate documentation from the Land Transportation Office.
Investigators from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Metro Manila are now working to determine the ownership of the remaining vehicles and identify who controls the parking spaces where they were parked.
Co, who is facing graft and malversation charges linked to an allegedly irregular P289.5-million flood control project in Oriental Mindoro, has not been located, with authorities saying he was last traced to Portugal.
