Luka Doncic authored one of the most commanding all-around performances of his Lakers tenure, bending a wild, high-scoring game to his will as Los Angeles pulled away late to beat the Utah Jazz 143–135 on Thursday night.

In a contest that flirted with offensive excess and emotional spillover, Doncic became the stabilizing force. He finished with 45 points, 14 assists, and 11 rebounds, recording his fifth triple-double of the season and repeatedly delivering the right read when the game threatened to tilt out of control. The Lakers leaned on that composure in the fourth quarter, where they finally created separation with a decisive 41–29 surge.

LeBron James complemented the takeover with 28 points and 10 assists, steering the Lakers through a stretch of physical play and officiating frustrations. Los Angeles entered the night shorthanded, missing Deandre Ayton and Austin Reaves, yet still found enough offensive rhythm to win for the third time in four games, even while surrendering their highest point total of the season.

Utah dictated much of the early tempo. Shooting 65 percent in the first half, the Jazz raced to a 78–73 lead at the break and looked comfortable playing fast despite the absence of leading scorer Lauri Markkanen. Keyonte George continued his breakout stretch with 33 points, marking his third consecutive 30-plus outing, while rookie Ace Bailey chipped in 19 as Utah consistently attacked the rim and lived at the free-throw line.

Still, Doncic kept the Lakers within striking distance, directly scoring or assisting on 16 of their first-half baskets. His patience paid off late. After Los Angeles finally nudged ahead in the third quarter, tensions flared as the Jazz piled up a season-high 47 free-throw attempts and multiple technical fouls were issued amid growing frustration.

The decisive moment arrived when Utah briefly threatened in the closing minutes, trimming the margin to four. Instead of forcing a shot, Doncic drew the defense and slipped a pass to Jaxson Hayes for a clean finish, restoring control and quieting the building. Hayes remained flawless against Utah in a Lakers uniform, finishing 7-for-7 from the field for 16 points and extending his perfect shooting run against the Jazz.

James, who took a knock to the knee and later absorbed contact to the jaw, stayed on the floor to seal the win, punctuating a critical run with free throws that capped the Lakers’ late push.

For Utah, the loss underscored a familiar theme. The offense was explosive and efficient, but sustaining it over 48 minutes remained elusive. For the Lakers, the night reinforced a different narrative. With Doncic orchestrating and James anchoring the moments that matter, even the messiest games can be bent into victories.
