Luka Dončić notches first Lakers triple-couble in emotional win over Mavericks

Luka Dončić made his long-awaited return against the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday and wasted no time reminding them of what they lost.

Facing his former team for the first time since the blockbuster trade that shook the NBA, Dončić delivered a commanding performance, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a 107-99 victory at Crypto.com Arena.

The Slovenian superstar recorded his first triple-double in purple and gold, finishing with 19 points, 15 rebounds, 11 assists, three steals, and two blocks.

While LeBron James and Austin Reaves also made their presence felt—each surpassing 20 points—it was Dončić’s night, as many had expected given reports of his frustration over the shocking trade.

From the opening tip, Dončić played with unmistakable intensity, seemingly determined to send a message to his former squad. After drilling an early three-pointer, he stared down the Mavericks’ bench, making it clear he was locked in. His impact extended beyond scoring, with highlight-worthy moments including a dazzling no-look, behind-the-head assist to Reaves that instantly went viral.

Lakers fans embraced the moment, breaking out in “Thank you, Nico” chants directed at Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison, who was in attendance. However, Dallas didn’t fold. The Mavericks fought back and kept the game close well into the third quarter, ramping up defensive pressure and making life difficult for the Lakers.

But when it mattered most, Los Angeles responded. Fueled by James’ ageless brilliance, a late-game surge put the Lakers comfortably ahead with two minutes remaining. At 40 years old, James once again silenced doubters, proving why pairing him with Dončić might be one of the league’s most dangerous moves.

In the end, Dončić’s first clash with his former team ended in triumph, and if this performance was any indication, the Mavericks might have plenty more reminders of what they gave up in the future.
