The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has placed a utility van under alarm and preventively suspended its driver’s license for 90 days after three passengers allegedly figured in a physical confrontation with a cyclist in Antipolo City.
The LTO issued a show cause order against the vehicle’s registered owner and designated driver after reviewing a video of the incident.
According to the agency, the footage showed three passengers confronting the cyclist before the encounter escalated into a physical altercation. The driver allegedly failed to intervene and allowed the confrontation to continue.
The driver was ordered to surrender his license to the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division, which imposed the 90-day preventive suspension while the case is being investigated.
He was also directed to appear before the division on Sept. 16 and submit a sworn explanation addressing the incident and the allegation that he may be an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
Investigators could pursue other violations depending on the findings of the continuing inquiry. The utility van involved has also been placed under alarm status pending the outcome of the proceedings.
LTO Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao warned motorists against allowing road disagreements to escalate into violence.
“Hindi dapat nauuwi sa pisikal na alitan ang anumang hindi pagkakaunawaan sa kalsada. Kung may problema, ayusin ito nang maayos at iwasan ang anumang kilos na maaaring magdulot ng panganib sa ibang tao at ibang gumagamit ng kalsada,” Lacanilao said.
