The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned the owner of a motorcycle caught parked in the middle of a road in Antipolo City, following a viral social media post that sparked public outrage.
In a statement released Friday, LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza expressed disbelief over the motorist’s behavior, which was captured in a widely shared photo on Facebook.
“You can’t help but shake your head at the behavior of some motorists,” Mendoza said. “Still, we want to give the individual a chance to explain, as part of their right to due process.”
A show cause order has been issued to the motorcycle owner, who is reportedly a resident of Barangay San Roque in Antipolo. The LTO has directed them to appear before the agency on Monday.
“You are required to submit a written explanation as to why you should not be administratively charged for Obstruction of Traffic under Section 54 of Republic Act No. 4136,” the order stated. “Additionally, you must explain why your driver’s license should not be suspended or revoked for being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle under Section 27 of the same law.”
The viral image, posted on March 15 by the Parkeserye Facebook page, shows a motorcycle parked squarely in the middle of a traffic lane in Antipolo City. The post quickly gained traction online, garnering nearly 9,600 reactions along with hundreds of shares and comments.
