The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Wednesday reminded public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators to honor the 20-percent student fare discount at all times, including weekends and holidays, or face fines and possible franchise revocation.
LTFRB Chair Vigor Mendoza II said complaints have surfaced about PUVs refusing discounts during long weekends and class suspensions. He stressed the policy also applies to senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
“The law is very clear about this. There must be a discount to students even during holidays for as long as they are enrolled,” Mendoza said, citing Republic Act 11314.
Violations can result in a three-month driver’s license suspension and PHP1,000 fine per offense for drivers. Operators may face up to PHP15,000 in fines and revocation of their Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC).
“Kaya umayos kayo dahil kung hindi, ako mismo ang aayos ng mga kaso laban sa inyo para hindi lang kayo magmulta kung hindi mawalan kayo ng prangkisa,” Mendoza warned.
Students are encouraged to report erring PUVs via the LTFRB hotline 0956-761-0739 or through official social media, with proper documentation required for action.
