The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) suspended for 30 days the operation of a passenger jeepney involved in a road crash in Cebu City on Labor Day that left 18 passengers injured.
The incident involved two jeepneys that collided at an intersection along Jakosalem and Gullas streets, according to the agency.
LTFRB Chairperson Vigor Mendoza II said initial findings pointed to possible recklessness by one of the drivers, with CCTV footage being reviewed as part of the investigation.
“The incident showed disregard of basic traffic regulations and road safety rules,” Mendoza said, adding that the video footage would serve as key evidence.
Based on the footage, one jeepney reportedly entered the intersection despite a red light before colliding with another vehicle.
The operator of the jeepney that overturned was directed to submit a written explanation on why its franchise should not be suspended or cancelled, based on a show cause order issued by the LTFRB regional office.
The agency also required the submission of the driver’s license and vehicle details, including the plate number of the jeepney involved.
The LTFRB said the hearing on the case was scheduled for May 18.
