The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board(LTFRB) has suspended 24 buses of North Genesis Bus Line after one of its units figured in a fatal road crash in Baguio City.
The crash happened early Tuesday, June 16, along Kilometer 6 of Marcos Highway.
The LTFRB said the passenger bus was on its way to Baguio City when it hit a truck parked along the road.
The bus conductor died after being trapped inside the vehicle, while at least six passengers were injured and taken to a hospital.
LTFRB Chair Vigor Mendoza said the 30-day suspension would allow regulators to determine whether the bus firm violated the terms of its certificate of public convenience.
The agency issued a show cause order requiring the company to explain in a notarized statement why it should not be sanctioned for allegedly hiring a reckless driver.
The LTFRB also ordered drug testing for all bus drivers and roadworthiness inspections for the 24 suspended units.
Mendoza said the license plates of the suspended buses must be surrendered to ensure compliance. He also ordered regional LTFRB officials to monitor the prompt release of insurance payments to the family of the fatality and to the injured passengers.
