The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) reminded public utility vehicle (PUV) operators and drivers to strictly follow laws against passenger harassment and discrimination.
LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said the welfare of passengers is a primary responsibility for those operating under a franchise.
“The logic is simple here: Passengers are the lifeblood of those who engage in public transportation business. It is therefore incumbent upon them to respect them at all times,” Mendoza said.
The agency cited the Safe Spaces Act, also known as the “Bawal Bastos Law,” as part of the legal framework protecting passengers.
Mendoza stressed that public cooperation is crucial, noting that complaints from passengers are necessary to hold erring drivers or operators accountable.
The LTFRB has streamlined the complaint process, providing hotlines and a social media monitoring team to track transportation-related concerns.
Officials cited a recent case where a ride-hailing driver faces license revocation for allegedly sexually harassing a passenger, underscoring the importance of reporting violations to maintain service standards.
