The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) have formalized a partnership to strengthen competition safeguards in the public transportation sector.

LTFRB Chairperson Vigor D. Mendoza II said the agreement aligns with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to improve transport services while protecting commuters and smaller industry players.

Under the accord, both agencies will work closely to monitor, prevent, and uncover practices that undermine fair competition, including abuse of market dominance.

Officials said the cooperation aims to promote affordable, reliable, and comfortable transport services by fostering a healthier operating environment.

The agreement also provides for joint consultations in crafting and implementing policies that could significantly affect competition within the public transport industry.

It further establishes mechanisms for coordination, information sharing, and investigation support consistent with the Philippine Competition Act and data privacy rules.

PCC Chairperson Michael Aguinaldo said the collaboration is expected to enhance oversight and enforcement, ensuring better choices and fairer prices for the riding public.
