MANILA – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) met with representatives of motorcycle taxi organizations to discuss concerns affecting riders’ livelihoods and proposed regulations for the sector.
Under the leadership of LTFRB Acting Chairman Atty. Greg Pua Jr., Executive Director Atty. John Paul Allen Victa, together with Legal Division representative Atty. Paul Vincent Austria, held discussions with the Metro Motorcycle Taxi Rider Organization and Kagulong.
The meeting focused on identifying the needs of motorcycle taxi riders and exploring recommendations to improve their working conditions while ensuring safe and lawful public transportation services.
Victa assured the groups that the LTFRB and the national government are continuously working on measures that would allow motorcycle taxi riders to sustain their livelihoods while complying with existing transportation policies.
He emphasized the importance of balancing the welfare of riders with commuter safety and the need for properly regulated motorcycle taxi operations.
The LTFRB official also disclosed that deliberations on establishing a regulatory framework for the motorcycle taxi sector are ongoing.
The proposed regulations aim to recognize the role of motorcycle taxi riders in the public transportation system, protect their rights and livelihoods, and promote more organized and efficient transport services.
According to the agency, the initiative aligns with the directives of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Giovanni Lopez to pursue inclusive transportation policies that support both commuters and transport workers.
The LTFRB reiterated its commitment to engaging motorcycle taxi organizations as discussions continue on policies that would provide clearer operational guidelines and strengthen protection for riders.
