The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board on Wednesday began implementing its Service Contracting Program at the EDSA Bus Carousel, marking the rollout of expanded transport support measures.
LTFRB Chairperson Vigor Mendoza II led the kickoff inspection at the GMA-Kamuning station early Wednesday morning, coinciding with the start of peak commuter hours.
The program is part of government efforts to sustain public transport operations amid ongoing economic pressures linked to global fuel and regional tensions.
Mendoza said the initiative is expected to expand beyond Metro Manila, covering other urban centers with high commuter demand.
He also reminded bus operators of compliance requirements, including the mandated number of trips under the EDSA Bus Carousel service arrangement.
Commuters, meanwhile, were informed of benefits under the program, including fare discounts and continued privileges for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and students.
The Service Contracting Program also covers in-city buses, UV Express units, and jeepneys operating along major transport routes during peak morning and afternoon hours.
The agency said that qualified operators can apply online via Land-based SCP (LBSCP) Registration System.
