LTFRB issues show cause order to InDrive after driver threatens passengers with weapon

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has summoned ride-hailing platform InDrive following reports that one of its drivers allegedly brandished a bladed weapon and threatened passengers.

LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Teofilo Guadiz III said the agency issued a show cause order on July 15, requiring InDrive to explain why its accreditation should not be suspended or revoked in light of the incident, which came to public attention through a viral social media post.

InDrive has been instructed to submit a written explanation within ten days upon receiving the order. Additionally, the company must attend a scheduled hearing on July 31, 2025.

Chair Guadiz emphasized that failure to appear at the hearing or submit a response will be taken as a waiver of InDrive’s right to be heard, and will result in a P5,000 penalty.

“This is a deeply concerning and unacceptable incident. Threatening passengers with a deadly weapon has no place in public transportation,” said Guadiz. “We are looking into implementing stricter qualifications for Transport Network Company (TNC) drivers to prevent similar incidents.”

He added that the LTFRB is taking proactive steps to ensure passenger safety, including reviewing current standards for TNC operators and their drivers.

InDrive was summoned specifically for “Operating as a PUV without Proper Authority from the Board” and for “Failure to Provide Safe, Adequate, Comfortable, and Dependable Public Land Transportation Service.”
