LPA trough, ITCZ bring rains to several parts of PH

MANILA – Several parts of the country will experience rainy weather on Friday, October 9, as the trough of a low-pressure area (LPA), the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and northeasterly windflow continue to affect different regions, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its latest weather forecast, PAGASA said the trough of an LPA outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Quezon, Marinduque and Romblon.

Meanwhile, the ITCZ will trigger similar weather conditions across Mindanao, the rest of the Visayas and Palawan.

Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao and Aurora will experience cloudy skies with rains due to northeasterly windflow.

The weather bureau warned that moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in flood-prone and mountainous areas.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also cautioned residents in these areas against possible flash floods and landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong northeasterly winds will prevail over Northern Luzon and the eastern section of Central Luzon, bringing moderate to rough seas with waves reaching 2.1 to 3.1 meters.

Elsewhere, light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters are expected.

Residents, particularly those in areas vulnerable to flooding and landslides, are advised to remain vigilant and monitor official weather updates.
