LPA trough, Habagat to bring rains over parts of Luzon

The trough of a low pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon or habagat will bring rains over several parts of Luzon on Sunday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over the Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan due to the trough of the LPA. Meanwhile, Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan will also experience rains from the southwest monsoon.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms from localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned of possible flash floods and landslides in areas experiencing heavy rainfall.

As of 2 a.m., the LPA being monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), tagged as LPA 08c, has a “medium” chance of developing into a tropical depression within 24 hours.

Moderate winds from the southwest to southeast with moderate seas (1.2 to 2.5 meters) will prevail over the western section of Luzon. The northern section of Luzon and the rest of the country will have light to moderate winds with slight to moderate seas.
