Lim-Alcala, Baulate-Abarquez lead PCA Open doubles titlists

 Alberto Lim Jr. and Angeline Alcala pulled off a 6-2, 6-3 victory over top seeds Rolly Saga and Joanna Tan Saturday to capture the mixed doubles title in the 41th Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open Tennis Championships at Plaza Dilao indoor shell court in Paco, Manila.

On their way to the finals, Lim and Alcala triumphed over Noel Damian and Alexa Milliam, 6-4, 6-4, while Saga and Tan prevailed over Ernest Sansona and Nicole Dela Rita, 6-4, 6-0.

The women’s doubles title went to top seeds Rovie Baulate and Elsie Abarquez, who beat Bambi Zoleta and Aileen Rogan, 6-3, 6-2.

Baulate and Abarquez won over fourth seeds Kaye Ann Emana and Marie Judy Padilla, 6-3, 7-5, in the semifinals while 2018 champions Zoleta and Rogan dominated Dana Abad and Tao Faye Tan, 6-1, 6-2.

Meanwhile, Toto Joven and Jude Michael Padao beat Eric Olivarez Jr. and PJ Tierro, 6-2, 6-2, to pocket the men’s doubles crown.

oven and Padao defeated Edu Manlangit and Jose Maria Pague, 6-3, 7-5, while Olivarez and Tierro ousted Alberto Lim Jr. and Brysl Libao, 7-5, 7-6 (2).

The men’s and women’s singles finals will be played on Sunday.

Lim will defend his title against Olivarez, while Marian Capadocia is eyeing a ninth straight title against Khim Iglupas. (PNA)
