The 178-year-old San Fernando El Rey Parish Church in Liloan, Cebu has officially reopened to the public following its reconsecration on the Solemnity of Christ the King, marking the end of a nearly month-long closure.
Presiding over the solemn Eucharistic celebration, Alberto S. Uy, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Cebu, led clergy, parishioners and local officials in the rite that restored the church’s spiritual consecration.
The church had been closed after a violent incident that defiled its sacred space, prompting its temporary suspension of public worship and necessitating reconsecration under canon law.
In his homily, Archbishop Uy offered comfort to the community, saying that the reopening signalled not only the restoration of the church building but a renewal of hope for the faithful of Liloan.
With doors open once again, the recently reconsecrated parish invites worshippers to resume Masses and liturgical services, turning a page on the recent chapter of closure and healing.
