With homes set to glow brighter and celebrations stretching late into the night, Manila Electric Company has assured the public that it is fully prepared to keep the power flowing throughout the holiday break.
Meralco said its crews and technical personnel will be on round-the-clock standby, including on Christmas Day, to promptly address any electricity service concerns and ensure a safe, bright, and worry-free holiday for its more than eight million customers.
“We encourage our customers to do their part in ensuring a safe and joyful holiday season by practicing electrical safety. Rest assured, contingency measures are in place and our crews are prepared to respond to any possible electricity service concern,” said Joe R. Zaldarriaga, vice president and head of corporate communications.
As households plug in lights and appliances for the festivities, Meralco reminded the public to observe basic electrical safety measures. These include unplugging Christmas lights and appliances when not in use or before going to bed, inspecting light strings for cracked or frayed wires before reuse, and avoiding nails or thumb tacks when installing decorations, as these can damage wires and pose fire risks. Customers are also advised to steer clear of “octopus” connections or overloaded extension cords, a common cause of electrical fires, and to keep a working fire extinguisher at home for emergencies.
While Meralco Business Centers will be closed on Christmas Eve, December 24, and Christmas Day, December 25, customers can still report electricity-related concerns through the MyMeralco app, the company’s official social media accounts on Facebook and X, via text at 0920-9716211 or 0917-5516211, or by calling the Meralco Hotline at 16211.
