The hosting of Palarong Bicol 2026 is expected to drive sports tourism and stimulate local economic activity, with thousands of visitors arriving in the city for the week-long regional athletic meet.

City sports officials said nearly 10,000 athletes, coaches, parents, and school representatives were in Legazpi during the competition period.

The influx of delegates has increased demand for accommodations and other tourism-related services, prompting higher occupancy rates in hotels and short-term rentals.

Officials said the event also provides an opportunity to promote lesser-known local attractions, dining spots, and safe viewing areas for Mayon Volcano outside the designated danger zone.

Aside from tourism benefits, the host city is seen to gain a competitive edge as local athletes were able to train early at the competition venues.

City authorities said investments in grassroots sports development helped improve athlete preparation and morale ahead of the regional games.

Organizers said medal winners will receive incentives from the city government, with hundreds of gold medals at stake in the competition.

Meanwhile, Sorsogon province is set to host the regional sports meet in 2027, with officials saying facility upgrades are underway to ensure readiness for athletes and delegates.
