Lebanese Army Commander Gen. Rodolphe Haykal and Pakistan Army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir discussed regional developments, security concerns, and defense cooperation during Haykal’s three-day visit to Pakistan, the Lebanese army announced Wednesday.
The visit was made upon Munir’s invitation and opened with a formal reception at the Pakistan Army’s General Headquarters.
Haykal was welcomed with a joint honor guard composed of personnel from Pakistan’s army, navy, and air force.
The Lebanese army reported that the two military leaders reviewed developments in the region and matters of shared concern, with focus on security and defense issues.
Munir emphasized the longstanding relations between Pakistan and Lebanon, while Haykal recognized the professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces and their role in regional stability and international peacekeeping.
Senior officers from both sides also joined wider discussions on expanding cooperation between the two armies, particularly in training and support for the Lebanese army amid current challenges.
Haykal also visited Pakistani defense firms and military production facilities, where he was briefed on defense technology, industrial capabilities, and possible areas for future cooperation.
The visit came as Lebanon continued to face Israeli attacks despite a fragile ceasefire that took effect on April 17 and was later extended under US sponsorship until early July. Lebanese figures showed that Israel’s offensive since March 2 had killed 3,696 people, wounded 11,413 others, and displaced more than one million.
