Malayan Insurance Co., Inc. (MICO), one of the country’s top non-life insurers, has teamed up with LRT-1 to launch a month-long holiday initiative offering free Personal Accident (PA) insurance to passengers throughout December. The campaign, dubbed The Gift of Protection, seeks to bring added peace of mind to thousands of daily riders navigating Metro Manila’s busiest travel season.
The partnership turns LRT-1’s Gil Puyat Station into a full-station takeover, complete with safety-themed visuals and QR codes, while a fully wrapped train will run along the line for the entire month. The campaign comes at a time when as many as two million passengers pass through the Gil Puyat Station monthly, with foot traffic rising even higher during the holidays.
Malayan Insurance chief marketing officer Anthony Louis Guanzon said the company is targeting to provide complimentary accident insurance to these passengers for up to three months, offering each rider P10,000 accident coverage. “As we celebrate our 95th year, we want to provide protection to LRT passengers so they won’t have to worry if anything happens to them during the coverage period,” Guanzon said. “This is our way of giving back and making sure more Filipinos feel secure during the holiday rush.”
Passengers can easily avail of the free coverage by scanning Malayan Insurance QR codes posted inside trains and throughout Gil Puyat Station. Guanzon noted that commuters may also extend the coverage to loved ones. “We’re distributing flyers with the same QR code so passengers can share the protection with their families and friends,” he added.
The seamless digital process requires only a name and mobile number, after which a digital policy certificate is issued instantly. The campaign underscores Malayan Insurance’s push to make insurance more accessible, intuitive, and meaningful for everyday commuters.
“December is the most hectic time for Filipino commuters—carrying gifts, rushing to catch buses home, navigating crowded stations,” said Malayan Insurance Chief Operating Officer Eden Tesoro. “We wanted to cut through the holiday chaos with a meaningful gesture that reminds Filipinos that protection isn’t an expense—it’s a gift, and one we’re honored to give this Christmas season.”
Guanzon also shared that Malayan Insurance has similar ongoing partnerships with bus liners and other transport groups, expanding the reach of affordable and easily accessible accident coverage. “This partnership with LRT-1 allows us to meet Filipinos where they are, literally,” he said. “We want to champion everyday protection, especially during a time people need it most.”
The Gift of Protection campaign runs for the entire month of December 2025 at LRT-1 Gil Puyat Station and aboard the specially wrapped train car.
