Large quantity of arms, munitions found in N. Afghanistan in 6 months

KABUL — Police have discovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition during a series of operations over the past six months in northern Afghanistan’s Samangan province, a news release of the provincial police office said on Sunday.

Counter-terrorism police during a series of operations in the provincial capital Aybak and several districts have seized 28 stocks of different kinds of assault rifles such as AK-47s, pistols and machine guns, the news release added.

All the collected weaponry was handed over to the concerned authorities on Sunday, the news release said.

The Afghan interim government vows to collect arms and ammunition from anyone outside security organs as part of efforts to ensure lasting peace in the post-war country. (Xinhua)
