The Larga Pilipinas cycling tournament has been moved to November 29 after organizers decided to postpone the event due to persistent bad weather affecting many parts of the country.
Originally slated to begin on August 2, the six-day race had to be rescheduled as heavy rains continue to batter Northern Luzon, with several areas—particularly in the Cordillera region—left isolated.
“It’s really unfortunate since the teams worked hard to prepare for this,” said Larga Pilipinas operations head Snow Badua during the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) forum held Tuesday at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila. “As we speak, there are still places in the north that are unreachable because of flooding and landslides.”
Badua explained that after consulting with local government units and receiving advice from PhilCycling president Abraham Tolentino, the decision was made to delay the race. He said safety remains the top priority, and November is expected to bring more stable weather conditions.
“We want to let the typhoon season pass first,” Badua added. “Let’s allow the LGUs to concentrate on recovery efforts. We don’t want to be a burden during this time.”
International and local teams, including several who were set to arrive this week, have already been notified of the new schedule.
