La Union police nab regional rape suspect

Police arrested a 34-year-old man wanted for two counts of qualified rape of a minor during a warrant operation in San Gabriel, La Union.

The suspect was listed as the eighth most wanted person in the region, according to the Philippine National Police.

Joint police units carried out the arrest on July 20 based on a warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court in San Fernando City.

Authorities documented the operation using an authorized recording device in compliance with Supreme Court rules on serving warrants.

The suspect underwent a medical examination before he was placed under police custody.

Police said the arrest was conducted with respect for due process and the rights of the accused.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Nartatez Jr. commended the operating teams for their coordination and professional handling of the operation.

He also urged the public to report crimes and support victims in seeking justice through the proper legal process.
