Amidst the growing issue on widespread corruption in government, legal experts are now saying that the children and relatives of those unscrupulous contractors now being investigated over irregularities in certain public infrastructure development projects can be held liable for infractions such as money laundering and possession of ill-gotten wealth.
In a statement, Pasig City mayor Victor Maria Regis ‘Vico’ Sotto enthused that he agrees with legal experts citing that these errant kin may be charged, especially after flaunting their wealth in properties and luxurious lifestyle in their posts on social media, both of which can actually be used as evidence against them.
“In chess, there is the so-called 20-40-40 rule, which means that one should spend 20 percent of one’s time learning (the opening), 40 percent (. . .) practicing (the middle game) and (another) 40 percent (. . .) studying (the endgame),” Sotto pointed out.
“Thus, the fact that these ‘unthinking’ princesses are boasting their affluent life supported by ‘dirty’ money is simply a dead give away and this blunder could end in a ‘checkmate’,” he added.
In endung, the mayor quoted from the late former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher when she vent her frustration over negative political trends in her country, saying that “there are still people in (her) party who believe in consensus politics.”
“I recall her (Thatcher) saying: ‘I regard them as Quislings, as traitors (and) I mean it’,” Sotto cited.
