Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island released ash early Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs reported that weak ash emissions from the summit crater began at around 5:55 a.m. and continued to be observed nearly two hours later.

The episode produced gray plumes that climbed roughly 350 meters above the crater and were carried southwest by prevailing winds, according to monitoring data.

Phivolcs Director Teresito Bacolcol said the activity should not be immediately viewed as alarming and remains within the expected behavior under Alert Level 2.

Alert Level 2 signifies moderate unrest, which Bacolcol said includes intermittent ash emissions such as those observed on Tuesday.

He added that ash releases have been recorded repeatedly since the volcano erupted in 2024, with more than 30 similar events logged in the latter half of 2025 alone.

Bacolcol said the latest activity does not point to a stronger eruption, noting that Phivolcs continues to watch for other indicators of magma movement or increasing internal pressure.
