The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Thursday reported renewed activities at Kanlaon Volcano.
According to Phivolcs, the volcano released ash twice during the day, signaling continuing surface disturbances.
Aside from the ash plumes, dozens of volcanic-tectonic earthquakes were logged within a 24-hour period, reflecting intensified movement beneath the volcano.
Volcanologists said the pattern points to progressive cracking of rocks underground as magma or pressurized gases attempt to move closer to the surface.
Phivolcs Director Teresito Bacolcol said such activity does not automatically mean a major eruption but could precede short-lived steam-driven or moderately explosive events.
He added that scientists are closely watching the volcano to determine whether the unrest will intensify or gradually subside in the coming days.
While Kanlaon remains under Alert Level 2, residents living in nearby areas are advised to remain cautious and heed official warnings.
