MANILA – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has received PHP1.4 million in donations through the Kaagapay Donations Portal just one month after its launch, benefiting disaster response operations and clients of DSWD-managed centers and residential care facilities (CRCFs).
Assistant Secretary Maria Paz Rafael of the Partnerships Building and Resource Mobilization Office (PBRMO) shared the update during a media forum at the DSWD Central Office in Quezon City on Thursday.
The Kaagapay Donations Portal was developed to provide a more efficient and convenient way for donors to contribute to charitable organizations, social welfare and development agencies (SWDAs), disaster relief efforts, and CRCFs. It allows donors to choose specific facilities or sectors they want to support and view real-time information on the most urgent needs across different regions.
The system fosters a culture of giving by directly connecting donors with foundations, non-government organizations (NGOs), non-profit corporations, and local government units (LGUs). Both local and international donations are now accepted.
However, Rafael clarified that the DSWD only accepts donations specifically for disaster relief operations and CRCFs, which cater to marginalized and vulnerable groups such as abandoned children, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and women and families in crisis.
The DSWD encourages more donors to utilize the Kaagapay Donations Portal to extend assistance to those in need.
