CAMARINES SUR — Police and military personnel recovered several explosives, ammunition magazines and a firearm during a joint intelligence operation in Caramoan, Camarines Sur, on Sept. 28, according to the Philippine National Police.

The operation was conducted by personnel of the Camarines Sur Police Provincial Office, Police Regional Office 5 and the Philippine Army.

Authorities recovered three improvised explosive devices locally known as “Bigas-bigas,” one anti-personnel mine, seven steel magazines for M16 rifles and a shotgun with a defaced serial number.

The PNP said the recovered items were secured for documentation, safekeeping and proper disposition. Authorities are also expected to determine the origin of the weapons and explosives and who may have been responsible for concealing them.

No arrests were reported in the PNP statement.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said intelligence gathering and coordination between security forces played a key role in the recovery.

“Ang mahalaga, nakarating sa tamang lugar ang impormasyon at naaksyunan ito agad. This is what coordinated police work should be — quietly doing the job, securing what needs to be secured, and keeping our communities out of harm’s way,” Nartatez said.

The PNP said it would continue intelligence and law enforcement operations in coordination with the Philippine Army and other security agencies to address potential threats to communities.
