Emmanuel “Jimuel” Pacquiao Jr. stepped into the professional ring for the first time on Sunday (Manila time), emerging with a majority draw after a spirited four-round showdown against Chicago prospect Brendan Lally at the Pechanga Resort Casino in California.
With his parents Manny Pacquiao and Jinkee watching closely from ringside, the 24-year-old Pacquiao Jr. showed flashes of promise but was pushed to the limit by the taller, physically imposing Lally, who also made his pro debut. One judge scored the bout 39-37 for Pacquiao Jr., while the remaining two officials had it tied at 38-38, resulting in the stalemate.
Lally used his height and aggressive forward pressure to dictate much of the early action, repeatedly forcing Pacquiao Jr. backward and testing his composure under fire. Still, the younger Pacquiao answered with sharp counters and timely combinations, doing just enough to keep the fight competitive and avoid a disappointing start to his pro career.
Pacquiao Jr., who began his amateur journey in March 2022 and compiled a 6-4 record before turning professional, has long been under the spotlight as he follows the legendary path carved by his father. His debut served as the co-main attraction of the first U.S. fight card staged by Manny Pacquiao Promotions, adding even more weight to the occasion.
Outside the ring, Pacquiao Jr. recently celebrated a major milestone in his personal life as he and his wife, Carolina, welcomed their newborn daughter, Clara — a joyful backdrop to the beginning of his boxing journey.
The draw marks a gritty first step into the pro ranks, offering a glimpse of both the challenges and potential that lie ahead for the young Pacquiao.
