Japan Navy Ship Makes Goodwill Stop in Subic

A Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer, JS Harusame (DD-102), arrived at the Naval Operating Base in Subic, Zambales for a three-day goodwill visit. The Philippine Navy welcomed the ship with arrival honors.

The visit comes after the Philippine Fleet’s recent trip to Yokosuka. The Navy said the stop aims to strengthen ties between the two forces.

Destroyer Commander Makoto Ozawa, Assistant Defense Attaché Cdr. Kawahata Noriyuki, and two other Japanese officers met with Rear Admiral Joe Anthony Orbe. They talked about their joint activities last August and Orbe’s visit to Yokosuka. They also prepared for the upcoming staff-to-staff talks between the Philippine Fleet and JMSDF, which will be held in the Philippines.
