Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held talks on Wednesday in Manila, focusing on trade, security and other key areas of bilateral cooperation.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in the Philippine capital.
Jaishankar said the discussions covered tariffs, energy, defense and security, critical minerals and artificial intelligence, all of which are priorities under the India-US comprehensive global strategic partnership.
The two officials also exchanged views on regional developments, global issues and multilateral cooperation.
Later in the day, Jaishankar joined the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, where representatives from India, the United States, Australia and Japan reviewed the strategic situation in the Indo-Pacific and discussed recent regional developments.
The Quad has continued to strengthen cooperation on regional security, economic collaboration and efforts to uphold a rules-based order across the Indo-Pacific.
Separately, Rubio met Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi on Tuesday to discuss the conflict involving the United States and Iran, according to Japan’s Foreign Ministry.
During the meeting, Motegi stressed the need to de-escalate tensions and ensure safe and uninterrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, while the two officials also exchanged views on developments in the Indo-Pacific region.
