Jackie Chan is back—and this time, he’s playing Jackie Chan

If there’s anyone who can leap off rooftops, disarm villains with a broomstick, and still have time to bottle-feed a baby panda—it’s Jackie Chan.

Yes, that Jackie Chan. The global icon. The stunt master. The man who turned martial arts into slapstick poetry. And now, in the delightfully offbeat action-comedy Panda Plan, Jackie takes on his most unexpected role yet: himself.

And spoiler alert: he’s hilarious.

Jackie vs. the world (and Diaper Duty)
In Panda Plan, Jackie Chan plays—wait for it—Jackie Chan. Not the polished Hollywood version, but a fictionalized, slightly over-his-head action star suddenly tasked with protecting Hu Hu, a ridiculously adorable baby panda with a knack for melting hearts and attracting danger.

When a shadowy crime syndicate sets its eyes on the cuddliest “national treasure” in China, Jackie is pulled into a globe-trotting rescue mission. Alongside his trusted agent David (played by Xiang Wei) and the warm-hearted panda keeper Su Xiaozhu (Ce Shi), Jackie races against time—and through traffic, rooftops, rivers, and more—to keep Hu Hu out of harm’s way.

Cue the classic Chan chaos: high-speed chases through bustling streets, close-quarters combat in unexpected places (a tea house! a bamboo grove!), and of course, more than a few accidental pratfalls. It’s part buddy-comedy, part kung-fu caper, and part fuzzy-feel-good family film.

The Chan trademark: Action, heart and a little bit of mayhem
If you’ve ever seen Rush Hour, Police Story, or even The Karate Kid reboot, you know Jackie doesn’t phone it in. At 71, the action maestro is still doing what he does best: physical comedy laced with jaw-dropping stunts.

“I brought in some of the same stunt team from The Karate Kid,” Jackie revealed in an interview. “Especially the doubles who worked with the kids. I wanted that same level of creativity, playfulness, and energy in Panda Plan.”

And it shows. Every sequence is choreographed with that signature Jackie Chan touch—clever use of props, bone-crunching timing, and always, always a wink.

Why a panda?
It turns out, this film has been years in the making—at least in Jackie’s heart.

“When I first watched Kung Fu Panda, I was proud, but also a little sad,” Jackie shared. “Pandas are our Chinese national treasure. And it was Hollywood who first made a blockbuster about them. So I thought—why not us? Why not a film that’s fully Chinese in its theme, its humor, its spirit?”

Enter Panda Plan. Shot across lush landscapes and historic towns in China, directed by Zhang Luan, and wrapped in a warm, whimsical tone, it’s a love letter to Jackie’s homeland, his craft, and yes—pandas.

A streaming event worth staying home for
Whether you’re in it for the action, the heart, or simply to watch Jackie Chan try to change a diaper mid-chase (yes, really), Panda Plan is the kind of feel-good flick we didn’t know we needed.

It’s proof that legends don’t slow down—they just evolve. And sometimes, evolution looks like cuddling a baby panda while outrunning bad guys.

Starting August 22, Filipino audiences can join the adventure exclusively on Lionsgate Play, available via PLDT Home, Smart, and Cignal.

So clear your schedule. Prepare the popcorn. And get ready for the most unexpectedly adorable action movie of the year.

Because only Jackie Chan can turn saving the world… into a family affair.
