ITCZ, easterlies bring rains to parts of Philippines; Typhoon Champi remains outside PAR

The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and easterlies will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms to several parts of the country on Monday, October 19, 2026, while Typhoon Champi continues to move outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), according to DOST-PAGASA.

In its 4:00 AM weather forecast, PAGASA said the ITCZ is affecting Palawan and western Mindanao, while easterlies are influencing weather conditions over Visayas and the rest of Luzon.

Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Tawi-Tawi, and Palawan due to the ITCZ.

Similar weather conditions will prevail over Bicol Region, Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, and Oriental Mindoro due to the easterlies.

PAGASA warned that moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall in these areas could trigger flash floods and landslides.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, and the remaining parts of Visayas will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

The rest of Mindanao will have similar weather conditions due to localized thunderstorms.

Flash floods and landslides remain possible during severe thunderstorms.

Typhoon Champi remains outside PAR

As of 3:00 AM, Typhoon Champi was located approximately 1,720 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 215 kph.

The typhoon was moving west-northwestward at 25 kph and remained outside PAR.

Coastal conditions

Light to moderate winds will prevail across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Coastal waters will be slight to moderate, with waves reaching 0.6 to 2.5 meters in Luzon, 0.6 to 1.8 meters in Visayas, and 0.6 to 1.5 meters in Mindanao.

PAGASA advised residents in flood- and landslide-prone areas to remain vigilant, particularly during heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

The public is also encouraged to monitor official weather bulletins for updates on Typhoon Champi and prevailing weather conditions.
