The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and easterlies will continue to bring rains and thunderstorms to several parts of the Philippines on Saturday, October 17, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said Mindanao, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Cebu, and Palawan will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the ITCZ.
The same weather system will bring cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms to the rest of the Visayas.
Meanwhile, the easterlies will cause cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Bicol Region, the rest of Mimaropa, Quezon, and Aurora.
Batanes and the Babuyan Islands may experience isolated light rains due to the northeasterly windflow.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
PAGASA also continues to monitor Typhoon Champi, which remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
As of 3 a.m., Champi was located 2,675 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, carrying maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 170 kph. It was moving west-northwestward at 25 kph.
The typhoon is expected to enter PAR in the coming days and will be given the local name Rosal.
Based on its forecast track, the weather disturbance could affect the eastern sections of Luzon, particularly extreme Northern Luzon.
Residents in areas experiencing thunderstorms are advised to remain alert for possible flash floods and landslides, especially during heavy rainfall, and monitor official PAGASA advisories for updates.
