International Series Head Rahul Singh and Tournament Director Pat Janssen paid a courtesy visit to Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Patrick “Pato” Gregorio on Wednesday to discuss preparations for the Manila leg of the International Series, set for October 23 to 26 at Sta. Elena Golf and Country Club.
Miguel Tabuena, the country’s most accomplished Asian Tour professional, will spearhead the local challenge against a star-studded field that includes major champions Bubba Watson, Patrick Reed, Charl Schwartzel, and Louis Oosthuizen.
“We’re thrilled to finally bring the International Series to the Philippines and connect with the country’s passionate golf community. This event marks a significant step in growing the game across Southeast Asia,” Singh said.
Gregorio welcomed the prestigious tournament as another milestone in Philippine sports tourism. “We are proud to welcome some of the finest golfers in the world, just a month after hosting the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championships. This reinforces our advocacy for sports tourism and showcases the Philippines as a premier destination for international competition,” he said.
He added: “We look forward to making history with LIV Golf and building a meaningful partnership that can serve as a springboard for broader collaboration in the growth of golf in the country.”
Sanctioned by the Asian Tour and associated with LIV Golf, the International Series is expanding its global footprint, with the Manila stop expected to deliver high-level action while elevating the Philippines’ standing in the international golf scene.
Ahead of the event, more than 20 rising Filipino players will test their skills in the Asian Development Tour (ADT) Players Championship from October 16 to 19 at Luisita Golf and Country Club in Tarlac. The winner will earn a coveted spot in the International Series Manila leg, while the highest-placed Filipino finisher will also be granted a berth if the champion is from overseas.
Additionally, five slots will be awarded to the top players on the Philippine Golf Tour Order of Merit, ensuring that the country’s most decorated golfers will stand shoulder to shoulder with the sport’s biggest names on home soil.
