The Insular Life Assurance Company, the country’s largest Filipino life insurer, has strengthened its board with the election of Gemilo J. San Pedro as its new independent trustee, bringing decades of audit, advisory, and risk management experience into the organization’s leadership.

San Pedro previously served as a partner, professional practice director, and head of risk management at SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co., one of the Philippines’ leading multidisciplinary professional services firms.

In addition to his extensive career in professional practice, he currently sits as an independent director of Filinvest Land, Inc., Globe Fintech Innovations, Inc., and Electronic Commerce Payments, Inc., giving him a broad perspective across real estate, fintech, and digital payments.

Nina D. Aguas, executive chair of The Insular Life Assurance Company, said the appointment reflects the insurer’s focus on strong governance as it navigates an increasingly complex financial environment.

She noted that San Pedro’s background in auditing, financial advisory, and enterprise risk management will be instrumental in reinforcing InLife’s commitment to fiscal integrity and long-term sustainability for Filipino policyholders.

San Pedro holds a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in finance and international business from the Graduate School of Business of New York University, and earned his Bachelor of Science in Commerce, major in accounting, from Rizal Memorial Colleges. He is also a member of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

With his appointment, InLife adds seasoned financial oversight and risk governance expertise to its board, reinforcing its long-standing role as a trusted institution in the Philippine insurance industry.
