The Iloilo provincial government has ordered tighter energy and fuel conservation protocols to help ease the effects of rising fuel prices.
Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. issued Executive Order No. 034 on Thursday night, citing concerns over the continued increase in fuel costs and its potential impact on the economy, industries, and the public.
He said official travels will be limited to essential purposes, while inter-agency coordination and meetings will be conducted virtually unless physical presence is legally or operationally necessary.
Defensor described the current situation in the power and fuel sector as a national emergency, warning that it affects public welfare and development.
The province will implement a compressed workweek for select offices, with 10-hour workdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Thursday, and a non-working Friday.
Certain offices are excluded from the four-day schedule, including the governor’s office, provincial agriculturist, provincial engineer, hospital management, disaster risk reduction, social welfare, ICT management, and general services.
He directed energy officers, local government focal persons, and coordinators to accelerate the Government Efficiency Management Program and emphasized the need to fast-track renewable energy initiatives.
