ILOILO CITY – The local government has pledged support for the family of three victims who perished in an early morning fire in Barangay Infante, Molo District here Saturday.

“The city will be supporting them. Whatever they need, we will see to it that we will find ways and means to support them,” Mayor Jerry Treñas said in an interview.

The fire, which started at 4:56 a.m. and was declared out by 5:25 a.m., claimed the lives of Lloyd and Lowelyn Reyes, both 40, and their seven-year-old daughter, Amber Marie.

The victims lived in an old duplex house shared with Lowelyn’s twin sister and her family.

Treñas urged residents to regularly inspect their electrical connections, especially in older homes, as faulty wiring and overloaded sockets are common fire hazards.

“It’s a very sad morning for all of us. This is a wake-up call for Ilonggos to take extra precautions with electrical safety,” he said.

The Bureau of Fire Protection is still investigating the cause of the fire, which resulted in damage estimated at P270,000. (PNA)
