The Sangguniang Panlungsod on Wednesday passed three separate resolutions commending Ilongga beauty queen Alexie Brooks and honoring the late actresses Nora Aunor and Pilita Corrales.
Brooks was commended for winning the Miss Eco International 2025 title during the pageant held in Alexandria, Egypt on April 19.
“The success of Alexie Brooks is invariably the source of pride and inspiration for our nation and is a monument to her perseverance, diligence, and dedication – qualities that define every Ilongga woman,” part of the resolution, authored by Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon, read.
Brooks, who is from Leon, Iloilo, was crowned Miss Iloilo in 2024 and represented the city in the Miss Universe Philippines pageant, where she won the title of Miss Eco International Philippines.
On the other hand, two resolutions were passed honoring Aunor and Corrales for their “unparalleled contributions to Philippine music, arts and culture and for being an iconic inspiration to generations of Filipinos.”
Ganzon, in his resolution, said Aunor’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of the most decorated and beloved figures in Philippine arts is a “testament to Filipino resilience, grit, and the power of genuine talent, making her timeless role model for all generations.”
Corrales, meanwhile, greatly influenced the Philippine music industry, arts, and culture since the 1960s, he said.
Aunor, a National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts, passed away at the age of 71 on April 16 and was interred at the Libingan ng mga Bayani on Tuesday.
Corrales, 87, known as Asia’s Queen of Songs, died on April 12.
“The city of Iloilo, as a proud hub of culture and arts, recognizes the value of honoring exemplary Filipino icons whose influence transcends the boundaries of entertainment and enters the realm of nation-building and collective memory,” the resolution said of the actresses.
