ILOILO CITY — The Iloilo provincial government convened its Task Force El Niño on Tuesday, Oct. 6, to strengthen preparations for the potential effects of prolonged dry conditions across the province.
Through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), provincial officials and concerned agencies discussed preparedness and mitigation measures aimed at reducing the impact of El Niño on communities and key sectors.
The task force is developing a comprehensive sectoral plan to identify possible risks and appropriate interventions as the province braces for drier conditions.
The plan is expected to coordinate measures involving water resources, agriculture, health, disaster preparedness and other sectors that could be affected by El Niño.
The provincial government said the initiative is intended to strengthen Iloilo’s readiness and ensure coordinated action among concerned offices as weather conditions develop.
