The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) said Friday that hundreds of devotees required medical or welfare assistance as the Feast of the Black Nazarene procession moved through Manila.
Data released by the PRC earlier in the day showed that many cases involved basic health checks, while others were treated for light injuries such as dizziness, abrasions, and sprains.
A smaller number of participants sustained serious injuries, including deep wounds that needed urgent medical attention.
The PRC reported that several devotees were taken to nearby hospitals, including the Philippine General Hospital, East Avenue Medical Center, and Tondo Medical Center, for further care.
In addition to medical treatment, welfare teams extended psychosocial support and referred some individuals for continued assistance.
To respond to the situation, the Red Cross deployed about 1,200 staff and volunteers, supported by multiple first aid stations, welfare desks, and emergency assets positioned along the route.
By midmorning, the Traslacion procession had reached Ayala Boulevard, with police estimating that tens of thousands of devotees were participating in the hours-long walk toward Quiapo Church.
