Global technology firm Huawei unveiled a collaborative platform at the Electric Power Summit during MWC Barcelona 2025, designed to support the IEEE P2413.2 PDIoT Reference Architecture Standards.
The initiative is focused on advancing digital transformation in the power sector, enhancing both grid intelligence and operational efficiency.
The summit, held under the theme “Thrive with Digital, Accelerate Electric Power Intelligence,” featured insights from leading industry experts and representatives of international standards organizations. Speakers shared the latest research and case studies to help accelerate the sector’s digitalization efforts.
Huawei vice president David Sun, also chief executive of Huawei’s Electric Power Digitalization Business Unit, highlighted the urgent need for innovation to tackle long-standing challenges in power systems. These include issues like traditional line losses and system reliability.
Sun pointed to the growing global demand for clean energy and the role of emerging technologies such as cloud computing, edge computing, and HPLC technology in addressing these concerns.
He shared a notable example from the Xi’an International Port Zone, where the deployment of Huawei’s HPLC technology has boosted low-voltage communication reliability to 99.9%. This improvement has allowed state grid staff to respond to power outages within 3 minutes for over 97% of customers, and reduced the incidence of passive trouble tickets for individual households by nearly 50%.
Additionally, Huawei’s technology has enabled a company in Shaanxi to integrate distributed solar power, coordinate charging piles, and double its energy capacity.
Sun also emphasized the importance of a multi-faceted approach to innovation. This includes architectural advancements that promote open and adaptable systems, AI-driven models for enhanced efficiency, and cross-industry collaboration to foster an interconnected ecosystem.
The summit also featured contributions from several industry leaders. Bilel Jamoussi, deputy director of the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB); Roque Bacani, first vice president and ICT and Transformation director of Meralco; and Juan Ortiz Noval, network operations and maintenance director of E-Distribución Redes Digitales, shared successful strategies they have implemented in collaboration with Huawei.
Oleg Logvinov, chair of the IEEE P2413.2, P1901.1, and P1901.3 working groups, presented the IEEE P2413.2 PDIoT standards architecture. He also announced a new collaboration with Huawei to launch the IEEE P2413.2 PDIoT Reference Architecture Standards Collaboration Platform.
Looking ahead, Huawei said it remains committed to driving the digital and AI-powered transformation of the power industry. By leveraging its experience and collaborating with global partners, the company aims to accelerate the sector’s shift toward more sustainable and intelligent energy solutions.
