The Philippine National Police’s Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) stepped up nationwide road safety and anti-crime operations in January, resulting in the recovery of more than 150 vehicles reported stolen, authorities said Monday.
From January 1 to 31, the HPG conducted 12,675 operations, nearly half of which were coordinated with other law enforcement units, covering highways, city streets, and rural routes.
Anti-carnapping initiatives led to the retrieval of 113 cars and 38 motorcycles, with 34 individuals arrested in separate cases. Authorities also filed 25 related criminal complaints.
Law enforcement teams seized over 5,000 illegal vehicle modifications, including altered mufflers, unauthorized lighting, and other equipment that could endanger public safety.
Traffic regulation enforcement was carried out alongside anti-criminality operations, leading to the impounding of 1,015 cars and 3,625 motorcycles for various violations. More than 46,000 traffic tickets were issued for permits, citations, and local ordinance breaches.
PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the campaign focuses on promoting order and safety on the roads, not just arresting offenders.
The HPG worked closely with local government units and partner agencies to monitor areas prone to traffic violations and criminal activity.
Checkpoints, roving patrols, and intelligence-led monitoring on major thoroughfares and secondary roads contributed to the effective implementation of operations.
The PNP reaffirmed its dedication to proactive, citizen-focused policing, ensuring law enforcement is both seen and felt to enhance public safety.
