House to hold memorial service for late Antipolo Rep. Romeo Acop

The House of Representatives will hold a memorial service and necrological rites for the late Antipolo City 2nd District Representative Romeo Acop at the Batasang Pambansa complex on Monday, Dec. 29.

The ceremony is scheduled to begin with a Requiem Mass at 9:00 a.m. at the Plenary Hall, followed by the formal memorial service at 10:00 a.m.

Acop, 78, passed away on the night of Dec. 20 after suffering a heart attack. His death came as he was reportedly recovering from a successful kidney transplant performed in late November.

House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III hailed the late lawmaker as a “model of integrity in public service,” noting his firm stance that the law must serve the people and that power is a responsibility rather than a privilege.

A retired police general and lawyer, Acop was a prominent figure in the 19th Congress, serving as the vice chairperson of the House Quad Committee.

In that role, he helped lead high-profile investigations into Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), the previous administration’s war on drugs, and the use of confidential funds.

Following the rites at the House of Representatives, Acop’s ashes will be transported to his district headquarters in Cristimar Village, Antipolo City, for public viewing and a second necrological service at 3:00 p.m.

The final inurnment is scheduled for Tuesday morning, Dec. 30, at the Haven of Angels Memorial Park, where he will be laid to rest beside his wife, the late Dr. Resurreccion Marrero Acop.
