The House Committee on Youth and Sports Development, led by 5th District of Isabela Representative Faustino Michael Carlos Dy III, on Wednesday passed a bill proposing the induction of Carlos Edriel Yulo into the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame.
Carlos Yulo brought home two gold medals from the 2024 Olympics, winning in the floor exercise and vault events.
Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) Secretary General Rowena Eusuya expressed that it is a great honor for GAP to have Yulo join the prestigious athletes who belong in the Hall of Fame.
Rep. Dy said that HR 1897 is in accordance with Republic Act 8757, which stipulates that candidates for the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame must have at least won a bronze medal in the Olympics, a gold medal in any Southeast Asian Games, and a silver medal in any Asian Games, Asian Cup, or other regional games.
“However we can give special exception given to this good performance, so that will be our justification for his enshrinement to the Hall of Fame,” PSC Executive Director Paolo Francisco Tatad said.
